Darkness is My Only Friend

“Since Psalm 88 is in the canonical Psalms, the faith of this psalm cannot be separated from the faith expressed in the rest of the book, and it helps its singers to see that faith can be real, even when it cannot arrive at strong hope after prayer” (ESV Study Bible).

Dear brother or sister who is ashamed by your inability to arrive at a place of hope this morning, I’m praying for you.

Christians are human. Never forget that.

God will not abandoned you in your distress. Today’s struggling faith does not negate your secured identity as His child.

You aren’t alone. You are loved. You will hope again.

You may feel as though darkness is your only companion, but Jesus is light and “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John‬ ‭1:5‬).

Today, “I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.” Ephesians‬ ‭1:18‬ ‭NLT‬‬
