unsettling thoughts

“But continually encourage one another every day, as long as it is called “Today” [and there is an opportunity], so that none of you will be hardened [into settled rebellion] by the deceitfulness of sin [its cleverness, delusive glamour, and sophistication].” Heb 3:12-13‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Irrational thoughts often accompany depression, so much so that the enemy can cleverly capture believers in a web of lies and wrong thinking. Fallacious thoughts can seem factual inside a mind that exists in a fallen world...even the mind of a born again believer.

What’s scary is that desperate despair can glamorize the giving up on life, creating the illusion of courage in the one who can carry it out. Suicide seems like a sensible choice when the mind is not sound, but that delusive glamour never delivers relief to those who you believe you are a burden on. That deceitfulness of sin leaves destruction in its path. This is not God’s will for your life and legacy.

If you are struggling, let me encourage you today. There is hope. Even if you recognize your thoughts to be irrational, yet are frustrated that you feel enslaved to them, believe with me that nothing is impossible with God.

Unsettling thoughts might accompany mental illness, but we are more than conquerors through the Most High. We can say no to a life of settled rebellion. We can set our minds on things above. We can ask God to give us the strength to take our thoughts captive. And when we fail, we can get up and try again. Imperfect progress is still progress.

We are in this together
